Although we are busy with daily life, part of us may be dissatisfied and wish for
something beyond that.
What is missing? Do I know how to look for it?
Mr Gurdjieff says that Man is asleep, that he is not free, that everything in his life just
happens. To escape this subjective world a profound transformation is needed to see the
inner reality of our situation.
His approach is direct and practical. To find an inner initiative in the events of everyday life
to wake us up and allow the ordinary to become extraordinary.
We are a group that meets regularly in Tokyo to explore these ideas through open
exchange and practise of his exercises in our daily lives
If you would like know more about the activities of this group please contact us at

Our founder
Jeffrey Somers was the founder of the Japanese group which he led for over 30 years. Born
in London in 1936, he was introduced to the Gurdjieff Work while a student of Sociology at
SOAS, University of London. This began his inner search which continued for the rest of his
life as a member of the Gurdjieff Society in London. Kenneth Walker, Henriette Lannes, and
Henri Tracol were his teachers, teachers, all of them directly taught by Mr. Gurdjieff. Jeffrey was a
scholar, musicologist, and orientalist. He passed away in August 2023. The group continues
to flourish in the same spirit, and is affiliated to
the Gurdjieff Society of London.
